What are general X-Ray services?

Your doctor may order an X-ray to diagnose an injury or illness. A small amount of radiation is focused on a specific part of the body. The X-rays pass through the body and images are recorded. General X-ray machines are designed to capture images for a wide range of applications to help doctors make the best possible diagnosis.

When is an X-Ray used?

Your doctor may order an X-ray to detect or rule out certain problems. General X-ray machines are used for a wide range of purposes from the identification of broken bones to the detection of cancer. X-rays may also be used to monitor the progress of a treatment routine to be sure that the treatment is achieving the desired outcome.

What happens during the procedure?

You may be asked to change into a hospital gown if the clothes you are wearing will interfere with the image. You will be positioned on the X-ray machine and asked to remain still while the image is being taken. The technologist will talk you through the procedure and answer any questions that you may have.

What happens after the procedure?

There are no steps to take after the procedure unless your physician gives you special instructions. A radiologist will review the results of the X-ray. The radiologist’s report will be provided to your physician to help your physician make the best possible diagnosis.

How do I schedule my X-Ray at Derry Imaging?

We offer walk in X-ray, so an appointment is not necessary. Your doctor will give you a copy of the order identifying the test(s) you need. Be sure to bring this with you as it contains important information used for your exam or have your doctor fax the order to us at (603) 537-3046.
