The American College of Radiology, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the Society of Breast Imaging all recommend that women aged 40 and older should have a mammogram every year. Variations of this schedule may occur if your medical history and condition require a different frequency. Early diagnosis and treatment significantly improve a patient’s chance for a successful recovery from breast cancer.

You Deserve 3D Mammography™
Our comprehensive 3D mammography™ system enables us to provide the highest resolution and fastest results for annual screenings and diagnostic mammograms. Plus, 3D mammography (breast tomosynthesis) ensures that our patients continue to have access to the best cutting-edge technologies around.
3D Technology Is ALWAYS Included at Derry Imaging
Even if your insurance will not cover the cost of a 3D mammogram™, we will provide it. We believe that every woman deserves the best, without compromise.
Breast tomosynthesis uses high-powered computing to convert digital breast images into a stack of very thin layers, or “slices,” building what is essentially a 3-dimensional mammogram. This produces the greatest visibility for the radiologist, who can scroll through images of your entire breast like pages of a book.
And, with our latest addition of Volpara Enterprise software, our breast care team can better assess your breast density and ensure each image in your mammogram is of the highest quality possible.
With conventional digital mammography, the radiologist is viewing all the complexities of your breast tissue in one flat image. Sometimes, breast tissue can overlap, giving the illusion that normal breast tissue looks like an abnormal area. By looking at breast tissue in one-millimeter slices, the radiologist can provide a more confident assessment. As a result, there may be fewer callbacks for secondary screenings.
Having high-quality images makes it easier for our radiologists to find cancer. VolparaLive! uses artificial intelligence to help the technologist monitor image quality each and every time, ensuring you receive the best mammogram possible. We use VolparaLive! at all our locations in addition to Volpara Density.
3D mammography complements standard 2D mammography and is performed at the same time with the same system. During the tomosynthesis portion of the exam, your breast will be under compression while the X-ray arm of the mammography machine makes a quick arc over the breast, taking a series of breast images at a number of angles. There is no extra compression required, and it only takes a few seconds longer for each view.
Very low X-ray energy is used during the exam, just about the same amount as a traditional mammogram done on film. Learn more about 3D mammograms™ and radiation.
