Get the Whole Picture with an Advanced Body Composition® Assessment

For many, the number on the scale doesn’t tell the whole story. Knowing your body composition is the first step to improving it. Because it is superior in accuracy and detail to other methods of measuring body fat, the Advanced Body Composition available on our Horizon DEXA system is considered the gold standard.

For Weight Loss

An Advanced Body Composition® assessment can enhance weight-loss programs by showing your percentage of body fat, total lean mass, visceral fat and more. Data from the scan can help you understand your body composition beyond the weight on the scale and help you achieve your overall health and fitness goals.

  • Develop tailored nutrition and weight-loss plans.
  • Achieve more successful long-term weight loss.
  • Track progress with visual comparisons over time.

For Athletes

An Advanced Body Composition assessment is also commonly used as a measurement tool by athletes in training or rehabilitation to monitor neuromuscular changes and the effects of physical training over time. The results will show how your lean mass and fat are distributed to help you put yourself on the road to success.

Take the first step to getting the true picture of your health with a DEXA Body Composition Scan. Call today to schedule (603) 537-1363!

This exam requires an order from your doctor. See the “How to Schedule” below for order form and additional information.

The scan uses ultra low-dose X-ray and can be completed in about 6 minutes. An initial scan is used as a baseline, and performance can be tracked with additional scans to show not only weight loss, but also how much fat compared to muscle mass you are losing. The whole-body scan is unique compared to other methods because it provides readings of visceral fat, a good indicator of increased chronic disease.

You will receive a detailed report on your body fat percentage, lean muscle percentage and visceral fat percentage that compares your scores against the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database. The NHANES database looks at age, gender and race to match your results to your peers.

There is no prep, however, we suggest you wear comfortable clothing without zippers, buttons or any metal. You may be asked to change into a gown if the technologist believes clothing will affect your images.

For optimized results:

  • Be normally hydrated and empty bladder and bowels before scan
  • Do not eat 4-6 hours before the scan
  • Do not exercise vigorously 4-6 hours before the scan
  • For follow up scans, it is best to have them performed at the same time of day (for women same day in their monthly cycle)
