A PET/CT scan provides your doctor with a powerful tool to diagnose, monitor and determine treatment for cancer. The scan combines PET (Positron Emission Tomography) and CT (Computed Tomography) images. PET images show the function of cells in the body while CT images show body anatomy, such as vessels, lymph nodes and organs. A PET/CT scan is also helpful in differentiating Alzheimer’s disease from other forms of dementia.

What to Expect?

Upon arrival you will receive a small injection of radioactive tracer. You will be asked to remain seated and relaxed for approximately 45 minutes while the tracer moves through your body. Then the technologist will bring you to the scanner, where you will lie down on the table and be asked to hold very still so we may obtain the best possible images. The scan takes about 15-25 minutes.

After the scan, you may resume your normal activities. The injected radioactive tracer quickly leaves your body. To expedite this, drink plenty of water.

Our radiologists will review your scans and send the results to your doctor. You will receive the results from your doctor according to their regular office protocol.
