What
are General X-ray Services?
Your doctor may order an X-ray to diagnose an injury or illness.
A small amount of radiation is focused on a specific part of the
body. The X-rays pass through the body and are recorded on film
or a TV. General X-ray machines are designed to capture images for
a wide range of applications to help doctors make the best possible
diagnosis.
When
is an X-ray used?
Your doctor may order an X-ray to detect or rule out certain problems.
General X-ray machines are used for a wide range of purposes from
the identification of broken bones to the detection of cancer. X-rays
may also be used to monitor the progress of a treatment routine
to be sure that the treatment is achieving the desired outcome.
What
happens during the procedure?
You may be asked to change into a hospital gown if the clothes you
are wearing will interfere with the image. Some procedures may require
the use of contrast medium, which may be administered orally, by
IV or injection. You will be positioned on the X-ray machine and
asked to remain still while the image is being taken. The technologist
will talk you through the procedure and answer any questions that
you may have.
What
happens after the procedure?
There are no steps to take after the procedure unless your physician
gives you special instructions. A radiologist will review the results
of the X-ray. The radiologist's report will be provided to your
physician to help your physician make the best possible diagnosis.
How
do I schedule my X-ray at Derry Imaging?
Your physician will call to schedule your X-ray. You will be given
a copy of the physician order to take with you. Be sure to take
the physician order with you as it contains information used by
the technologist to set up your exam and by the billing department
for proper submission to your insurance company.
