Derry Imaging Center Receives ACR Accreditation

DERRY, NH (March 18, 2010) – Derry Imaging Center has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in four modalities by the American College of Radiology (ACR). Included in the accreditation were 1) Fixed Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)), 2) mobile MRI head, spine 3) ultrasound imaging, and 4) computed tomography services (CT).

“The requirements for accreditation through ACR are rigorous,” says Heidi Clark, RDMS,BS director of diagnostic imaging for Derry Imaging Center. “We were examined on the basis of image quality, dose monitoring, phantom testing, equipment evaluation, calibration, and maintenance and a review of our track record specific to each modality. The fact that we passed our accreditation with flying colors, speaks to the extremely skilled staff we have working at Derry Imaging Center and their commitment to deliver the highest level of patient care possible.”

Derry Imaging is the resource of choice for patients and families in the Greater Derry area in need of a full range of cost-effective diagnostic imaging services, including MRI, CT Scan, Mammography, Bone Density, X-Ray, Ultrasound, and Cardiology. Tests can often be scheduled, completed and delivered to a referring physician within a few days.

The ACR, headquartered in Reston, VA, awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. They assess the qualifications of the personnel and the adequacy of facility equipment. The surveyors report their findings to the ACR’s Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report.

The ACR is a national organization serving more than 32,000 diagnostic and interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, and nuclear medicine and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.

Lunar Prodigy Bone Densitometer with Dual Energy Vertebral Assessment

Dual Energy Vertebral Assessment (DVA™) provides a dual-energy image of the AP and lateral spine allowing clinicians to visually assess the presence of vertebral fractures. An existing vertebral fracture has been shown to double the risk of subsequent fractures. Vertebral fractures are most common in patients over age 70. Prevalence of clinical vertebral fractures in this age group is 5 – 10X higher than patients under age 70 where the prevalence is under 3%.
