At the center of your breast health care
Sara Nevares, RN the Breast Health Navigator at Derry Imaging Center is at the center of your breast health care. A registered nurse with oncology experience, a patient advocate and a 7-year survivor herself, Sara has a single focus -- you. Her role is to serve as an expert guide for patients in all aspects of breast care.
This program will serve as a resource for our patients who present with benign breast changes or have been diagnosed with breast cancer.
Care for the Patient:
- Acts as both a patient advocate and advisor beginning with biopsy and continuing through further surgeries or treatments, if needed.
- Helps navigate each phase of the diagnostic and treatment process.
- Facilitates every aspect of your care -- even if part of that care takes place outside of Derry Imaging Center.
- A source of knowledge, understanding, guidance and strength.
Communications with Your Primary Care Physician:
- If the mammogram is abnormal, Sara will provide rapid communication of this result to your physician.
- Sara will assist with scheduling surgical consultation and notify your physician.
In the Event of a Cancer Diagnosis:
- Sara is available to meet with you and your family to discuss the diagnosis.
- She will provide education about breast cancer and discuss the available treatment modalities that are indicated in your case, including surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy and/or hormonal treatments.
- Provides information on local resources available to you for genetic testings, wigs, prosthetics, support groups and more.
